So, that's it. I'm done waiting for grades from law school classes to be posted. No more law school grades. In 8 semesters, not once did I pull off straight As. Despite the fact that I am opposed to our grading system's inclusion of the last grade I received, I will be unprincipled and accept it.

Sure wouldn't mind getting that last grade, so I could finally put an end to this aspect of waiting and start worrying about bar exam results waiting. Got my big "CR" in my one credit/no credit class today, which means I still have a graded class to go. And then there's the waiting for the registrar's office to post the final class position numbers. Hmm. Lots of waiting.

First Amendment came in today as a pleasant surprise. I was fearing the worst, and it was not the worst. Not the best either, but not the worst. One more grade to go, and one appearance of "credit" and I can pack this law school thing in. Well, depending on what we consider bar prep, which happens to take place at school everyday. And then there's my paper, which I'm under pressure to get published... No more grades, anyway, after those other two come in. (At the very least, one of my two main excuses for sticking with Firefox over Safari -- ReloadEvery, which gets cranked up during these grade-waiting period -- will no longer be needed. Now, if there was just an equivalent of Better Gmail 2 for Safari...)

Now, it doesn't really matter. I've graduated. The only practical way for me to fail a class would be to not take a final or turn in the required work. One of my 3 classes is credit/no credit. However, I'd still like to see the grades. Then I want to see the final grade distributions; I don't know what effect the new curve will have on my estimates. It'll be nice when I can stop worrying about grades. At least the bar exam is pass/fail and I know when the results will be in.

My two letter-graded grades are in. My two credit/no credit grades are not, though the professors already announced that everyone passed. It is now very unlikely that I will fail out before graduating at the end of the semester.

Wow. I was very pleasantly surprised by the third grade. My perceived misstatement about the benefits of section 230, and leaving off a penalties provision from my new law must not have hurt me too badly.

I'll be writing a post about the Intensive Advocacy Program I spent the last two weeks doing in a bit. For now, just felt like posting something. As of today, two of my three grades are in. I'm not confident about the third, because I can think of two things I feel were bad about it, and I remain convinced that given its 24-hour take home format, everyone else nailed everything. (Yes, I realize that's probably not the case, but I don't know it's not the case.) It also required a little more creativity than my usual law school exam. Then there's the little matter that the final is only 50% of the final grade, which makes it tough for me to figure out how to judge my performance at all... Either way, I'll survive; my position in the class isn't the end-all, be-all. I really just want the answer. In the meantime, the Firefox plugin ReloadEvery is going it's job for me on the grade page. Grades have been weird this semester. Legal Ethics came in a flash, then there's been this long wait for the other two grades. This constant wait for grades is done next year, at least. Then there's the 5-month wait for bar exam results.

Patent Law grade came today. It's a satisfactory grade (my sister Emily will say my expectations/stanndards are too high.) On the plus side, my GPA climbed just a touch bit higher, which should keep me in the top 15%. On the downside, it didn't climb enough to bump me into the top 10% or to comfortably keep me in the top 15% at the end of 2008. One issue with this exam, of course, is that it was a week-long take-home. I got a little complacent and did little to no prep before getting it. That meant that while I put a huge amount of time into it, it was pretty inefficient time, because I was reviewing the material at the same time. That's certainly a pattern I will have to avoid in the future. The other problem, of course, is that I was doing that on a shortened schedule. I had to pick up the exam on Wednesday, December 6. My Evidence exam was on Saturday, December 9. I didn't start looking at Patent Law until around 5 PM on December 9, with the exam to be turned in on December 13. I didn't start working on it in earnest until after I got moving on Sunday, December 10, after my Evidence final hangover. In short, I didn't play it well. I think I'll accept the grade. Pass and move on, as Stan likes to say.

Evidence Advocacy? Credit! Advocate of the Year Competition? Credit! Oh, psyched am I!
gregh 2007-01-16 10:27 Law_School waiting_for_grades
Yes, it's January 16, and I have just one of my 4 grades in: Evidence. Two of the grades are credit/no credit, so I don't really understand the delay; similarly, they don't really concern me, either. The fourth is Patent Law, which is graded, and which I'd at least like to know about. The waiting doesn't get easier as the years pass. |
